Yaz, Yasmin Lawsuits Continue to Flood into Courts
The Yaz and Yasmin lawsuits filed in federal courts across the country were consolidated in a multi-district litigation less than a year ago and already there are almost 4,000 plaintiffs who have filed suit against the makers of the oral contraceptive pills.
Currently, the first case in the MDL is slated to go to trial in September 2011. Plaintiffs and Defendants are presently conducting the discovery phase of the trial wherein both parties share certain information and documents with each other. So far millions of pages of documents have been produced by the defendant drug companies to plaintiffs' lawyers and several depositions of drug company representatives have been taken by lawyers on the plaintiffs' steering committee.
There are also thousands of cases on file in the state court litigation proceeding in California, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
These lawsuits all seek compensation for serious injuries suffered by the users of Yaz, Yasmin, Ocella and Gianvi birth control pills. Plaintiffs in these cases have suffered strokes, pulmonary embolism, deep vein thrombosis, heart arrhythmias and gallbladder removal.
